Retro Console Photobook

We’re building a photobook made entirely of images taken on retro game consoles. Looking for photos taken with:

• 3DS, DSi, PSP, GameBoy Camera, or any other retro console.
• Help us immortalize the beauty of these forgotten machines. No rules, just vibes.

Goth Night Flyer Project

We’re putting together rotating flyer packs for underground shows—and we want your art.

Requirements:

• Must say "Goth Night" loud and proud
• Leave space for band logos + event info
• Sized 8.5in x 11in (standard US printer paper)
• Submit 2 to 5 flyers per artist, per pack

How it works:
Packs are released once we hit 13 total flyers.
It’s a volunteer project, but you’ll be fully credited and your work will be distributed across the HOUDINI network.

Art Posting

Competitive Pokemon Coverage

We’re looking for writers tapped into the official VGC scene—not Smogon, not fan formats.

Think real-world tournaments, battle stadium meta, regional reports, or even R/B/Y, Gen 3, etc.

Big IRL tourney just went down? New busted combo lighting up the ladder? Got a spicy take on the VGC meta?

We want it.

Whether you’re analyzing team comps, spotlighting players, or breaking down format shifts, we’re bringing Pokémon to HOUDINI Magazine—and we’re doing it our way.

Gaslight Chronicles

Our ongoing paperback anthology series is hungry for Rated R stories that claw their way out of the dark. We're seeking short fiction (at least 5,000 words) that leans into the raw, the unsettling, and the unapologetic. Genres we're craving:

• Crime: Gritty tales from gangland, drug deals gone wrong, or moral decay in neon-lit alleys.
• Horror: Psychological dread, body horror, or things that lurk just out of sight.
• Splatterpunk: Blood-soaked body horror that doesn't flinch.
• Grimdark: Bleak fantasy where hope is a faint flicker.
• Vampire: Fresh takes on bloodsuckers—seductive, feral, or existential.
• Sci-Fi: Dystopian sprawl, rogue AIs, or cosmic horror.
• Pulp: High-octane thrills with a sleazy bent.
• Payment: $40 for the rights to your work, plus bragging rights in our twisted little library.

Show Reports

Live music, underground fights, or afterparties that spiraled into the surreal—we want your stories from the front lines of local scenes. Tell us about:

• The band that blew your mind at a dive bar.
• The chaos of a basement beatdown show where someone's nose got broken.
• The strange characters you meet at the after party.
• Payment: $15 if we feature your report.

Indie Game Reviews

The indie game scene is a treasure trove of bold ideas and hidden gems, and we want to amplify it. Write a review, essay, or love letter to an indie game that's got you hooked.

• Tell us why it's a masterpiece, a mess, or something in between.
• From arcade shmups to experimental visual novels, we're open to it all.
• Payment: $15 if your piece makes the cut.
